Cosmo is looking for a thoughtful, organized, and incredibly capable Store & Operations Lead to join its growing team in Bed-Stuy.

Cosmo opened in June as a neighborhood kids store built around beautiful, well-made clothing, natural materials, small maker brands, and a thoughtful resale program that keeps great kids clothing in circulation. Since opening, the response has been incredible, and we’re now looking for someone to help grow the business while keeping the store feeling exactly like Cosmo.

This is a hands-on role with a mix of retail, operations, administration, inventory, buying, merchandising, and team leadership. This hire will work directly with the owner as her second in command, helping keep the store running smoothly and turning the larger vision for Cosmo into the day-to-day reality.

The role has the intention to grow into a Store Manager position as Cosmo grows.


The Role

Store + Team

  • Help oversee the day-to-day operation of the shop
  • Serve as the owner’s second in command and a key point person for the team
  • Schedule and coordinate part-time associates
  • Train new team members on Cosmo’s systems, standards, and store experience
  • Lead by example on the sales floor and help create a warm, thoughtful customer experience
  • Open and/or close the store as needed
  • Keep the shop organized, beautifully merchandised, tidy, and well-stocked

Buying + Inventory

The secondhand buying program is one of the most important parts of Cosmo’s business. Great buying is at the heart of what makes the store special and successful.

  • Lead Cosmo’s secondhand buying process and make thoughtful decisions about what comes into the store
  • Become an expert in Cosmo’s buying standards, including brands, fabrics, quality, condition, sizing, and resale value
  • Train part-time associates on the buying process
  • Develop seasonal buying guidelines and refine them based on customer preferences, inventory needs, and sales
  • Oversee both new and pre-loved incoming inventory, including organizing, tagging, and entering into the system
  • Help plan seasonal inventory transitions and product needs

Operations + Administration

  • Keep Shopify and inventory systems accurate and organized
  • Pull and review basic sales and inventory reports
  • Help manage supplies, store needs, and operational details
  • Coordinate with vendors, makers, and partners
  • Create and maintain systems and checklists that make the store run more efficiently
  • Take ownership of projects and follow them through from start to finish
  • Identify opportunities to improve how the business operates and take initiative to make things better

Merchandising + Seasonal Support

  • Help refresh displays and merchandising throughout the seasons
  • Support the launch and merchandising of new items and maker brands
  • Help plan product placement and seasonal transitions
  • Keep the store feeling fresh, beautiful, and aligned with the Cosmo aesthetic

Events + Neighborhood

  • Help coordinate store events, classes, pop-ups, and collaborations
  • Support event setup and day-of logistics
  • Build genuine relationships with customers, families, local makers, businesses, and the broader Bed-Stuy neighborhood
  • Help Cosmo continue to become a meaningful part of the neighborhood

Who We’re Looking For

Relevant experience is important for this role. Cosmo is looking for someone with experience in children’s retail, resale, consignment, or retail operations who is ready to take on more responsibility. The right person should be capable, highly organized, comfortable working independently, and excited to become an expert in how Cosmo operates.

We’re especially excited if you have:

  • Experience with children’s clothing, brands, sizing, fabrics, or merchandising
  • Experience buying or selling clothing secondhand, whether professionally or through resale platforms
  • Experience with Shopify or other POS / inventory systems
  • Experience scheduling, training, or coordinating a small team
  • Strong computer and organizational skills
  • Experience working at a small business, startup, or other fast-moving environment
  • A genuine interest in sustainability, thoughtful consumption, and keeping clothing in circulation
  • Strong familiarity with Bed-Stuy and Brooklyn and a desire to build deep neighborhood relationships

Beyond experience, Cosmo is looking for someone who is a natural problem solver, communicates well, takes ownership, notices the details, and doesn't need constant direction to get things done.


Position Details

  • Position: Store & Operations Lead
  • Hours: Approximately 30–45 hours/week, depending on the week
  • Schedule: A mix of retail store hours, administrative hours, and occasional evenings/weekends
  • Location: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
  • Pay: $25–$28/hour depending on experience
  • Employment: Full-time, non-exempt
  • Start date: Flexible / asap
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
