cosmo is hiring a part-time retail associate:

We’re opening a new neighborhood kids store in Bed-Stuy this June and are looking for 2–3 thoughtful and excited part-time retail associates to join our founding team.

We’re building a store that celebrates beautiful, well made pieces for babies and kids, with a focus on natural materials, small maker brands, and a thoughtful resale program that keeps great clothing in circulation. Associates will be trained in our buy + sell program, learning how to evaluate brands, fabrics and condition to purchase special pre-loved kids clothing from the community.

This role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, loves kids, appreciates design, and wants to help build a welcoming neighborhood space from the ground up with us.

  • Greet customers warmly and create a welcoming in-store experience
  • Assist shoppers in finding products and making thoughtful recommendations
  • Help maintain thoughtful merchandising and a calm, beautiful shop environment
  • Operate the POS system and handle transactions
  • Keep the shop tidy, organized, and well-stocked throughout the day
  • Help receive and unpack new inventory
  • Support secondhand clothing intake and buying process, with path to running this independently
  • Support occasional store events or evening/weekend activities (think: art classes, community indigo dying days, parent meetups, baby music class etc.)
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds

Ideal Candidate

  • Retail or customer service experience preferred but not required
  • Warm, reliable, and naturally curious about clothing, design, and quality
  • Comfortable chatting with customers and helping them find what they need (bonus: familiarity with kids clothing brands, sizing, or fabrics)
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of care and responsibility
  • Able to multitask during busy moments while maintaining a calm, welcoming presence

Position Details

  • Part-time: ~10–20 hours per week
  • Schedule: mix of weekday and weekend shifts
  • Start date: May (trainings held ahead of June 1 opening)
  • Location: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
  • Pay: $20–$25/hour depending on experience

Nice To Have:

  • A background working in resale, consignment, or buy/sell retail
  • Have experience evaluating condition, quality, and resale value of clothing
  • Enjoy working with kids or families
  • Are familiar with kids clothing including brands, sizing, or styles
  • Have personally resold clothing online, at markets, or through vintage/resale platforms
  • Live nearby and are familiar with the Bed-Stuy community
  • Passionate about social impact and community-building
  • Excited about upcycling, sustainable fashion, and keeping clothing in circulation
