cosmo is hiring a part-time retail associate:
We’re opening a new neighborhood kids store in Bed-Stuy this June and are looking for 2–3 thoughtful and excited part-time retail associates to join our founding team.
We’re building a store that celebrates beautiful, well made pieces for babies and kids, with a focus on natural materials, small maker brands, and a thoughtful resale program that keeps great clothing in circulation. Associates will be trained in our buy + sell program, learning how to evaluate brands, fabrics and condition to purchase special pre-loved kids clothing from the community.
This role is perfect for someone who enjoys connecting with people, loves kids, appreciates design, and wants to help build a welcoming neighborhood space from the ground up with us.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers warmly and create a welcoming in-store experience
- Assist shoppers in finding products and making thoughtful recommendations
- Help maintain thoughtful merchandising and a calm, beautiful shop environment
- Operate the POS system and handle transactions
- Keep the shop tidy, organized, and well-stocked throughout the day
- Help receive and unpack new inventory
- Support secondhand clothing intake and buying process, with path to running this independently
- Support occasional store events or evening/weekend activities (think: art classes, community indigo dying days, parent meetups, baby music class etc.)
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Ideal Candidate
- Retail or customer service experience preferred but not required
- Warm, reliable, and naturally curious about clothing, design, and quality
- Comfortable chatting with customers and helping them find what they need (bonus: familiarity with kids clothing brands, sizing, or fabrics)
- Organized and detail-oriented, with a strong sense of care and responsibility
- Able to multitask during busy moments while maintaining a calm, welcoming presence
Position Details
- Part-time: ~10–20 hours per week
- Schedule: mix of weekday and weekend shifts
- Start date: May (trainings held ahead of June 1 opening)
- Location: Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
- Pay: $20–$25/hour depending on experience
Nice To Have:
- A background working in resale, consignment, or buy/sell retail
- Have experience evaluating condition, quality, and resale value of clothing
- Enjoy working with kids or families
- Are familiar with kids clothing including brands, sizing, or styles
- Have personally resold clothing online, at markets, or through vintage/resale platforms
- Live nearby and are familiar with the Bed-Stuy community
- Passionate about social impact and community-building
- Excited about upcycling, sustainable fashion, and keeping clothing in circulation
